The Dark Seed
Walking around the neon-drenched streets of Neotropolis in 2023, three good friends talked about how their dark, inhuman personas should start a faction. It should be a place other Darklings could go and feel welcome. Thus was born the first seed that grew into the Under Dark.
Grymlyn, Shrike and Slag all love dark art, music and literature and are often drawn to the darker side of the fictional street. They found themselves throwing out ideas of what the Under Dark could be. It could be a Neo club that played Goth, Industrial, Metal and Dark Wave. It could be a black market arms dealer. Or maybe a mercenary collective.
But in the end, they decided they really wanted to add something to Neo that would help people find a way to get more involved, to meet new friends and to add to the theatrical element that they all so loved about the event.
They had all spent so much time on their costumes, weapons, props and backstories. But once at the event, they found it sometimes scary to just go up to people and start interacting, despite how amazingly friendly and welcoming everyone is at Neo. Some of their friends from Wasteland Weekend were there and expressed the same fears.
Thus the final plan for the Under Dark took shape.
The Under Dark’s Mission
The Under Dark was created to achieve three main goals:
1- Develop fun quests and missions to give people a reason to explore the city, interact with other eventgoers and add to the overall immersion of Neo. They all love LARPing and roleplaying, so they wanted to bring a bit more of that to the city. They had all found that the more they interacted with people, the more fun they had. The plan is also to have these quests add to the fun of the city. For example, walking through the streets and suddenly witnessing a group of people attempting to steal advanced tech from a guarded caravan is just a cool thing to see and makes Neo feel that much more real and alive.
2 - Create a large array of decorated weapons, props, costuming, decals, and other crafts to share at the event. All three love to create and spend a good deal of time on their own attire and props. And they wanted a way to share some of that with everyone.
3 - Introduce a fun new currency into the Neotropolis economy. Not only are the credits they designed and made fun keepsakes, but they want people to use them in their Neo experience. Use them to bribe a bouncer, tip a bartender, buy street tech from a barterer, pay for a selfie with the famous wandering Noodle Man!….so many ways to have fun with them. And, these credits are the only way to buy goods from the Under Dark store. They didn’t want to charge real money for their wares but encourage people to get more involved through quests to earn the credits they could use for cool stuff.
